Volunteers and their dedicated service are a valuable asset to Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology and to our patients, their families and guests. Each volunteer brings a special talent in serving others.
We are always looking for caring individuals who are able to provide comfort and quiet time for our patients while assisting FVHO staff as needed at the new Health & Wellness Center. Volunteer shifts typically run 7:30-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 2 p.m.-4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Hospitality / Greeting
Volunteers will meet, greet and assist patients and visitors as they enter and depart from the FVHO facility. Volunteers must be able to communicate well with people and help expedite the flow of traffic in the clinic as much as possible. First floor volunteers must be able to stand and walk throughout the building as they will serve as an escort for patients and guests.
Volunteers will meet, greet and assist patients as they leave the exam room and enter the chemotherapy area for the patient’s infusion. Second floor volunteers will help patients get settled and provide blankets or pillows as needed. They must be able to communicate well with people and make patient care a top priority.
Volunteers assist in transporting patients, equipment, labs and supplies in the hospital, cancer and surgery departments. Volunteers need to be physically able to push wheelchairs, do a lot of walking and communicate well with patients and staff.
Knit / Crochet
Once a month a group of enthusiastic, talented yarn masters gather to create beautiful knitted and crocheted items. The group will decide what projects to work on: shawls, chemo caps, scarves, etc. These handmade creations bring comfort and support to patients while allowing the volunteers to directly contribute to the wellbeing of the patients.
The Volunteer Department is proud to host a monthly knit/crochet tea on the SECOND Tuesday and Friday of the month from 1-3 p.m. in the main Health & Wellness Center corridor under the purple beam. At any time, volunteers can visit the FVHO Health & Wellness Center during regular business hours to relax and knit/crochet by the windows at either end of the main corridor. Come and enjoy some sunshine, provided free of charge.
Patient-Family Advisory Council
This group meets quarterly to help continually improve the patient experience at all of the FVHO locations. The council also includes overseeing a mentoring program that will match patients in remission with patients currently undergoing treatment.
