Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology patients benefit from new, specialized hair salon

APPLETON, Wis. (July 12, 2016)Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology (FVHO) recently opened Happy Heads, a salon that caters its services to FVHO’s patients. The salon is located at the FVHO Health & Wellness Center, 3925 N. Gateway Drive in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Wanting to involve staff and volunteers, FVHO asked employees to submit names for a new salon. Volunteer and former FVHO patient Alex Blatseas’ submission—Happy Heads—won the naming competition.

“The whimsy and playfulness of a wig or scarf or hat brought joy and security, and it made the journey easier,” Blatseas said about her choice for the name. “If our heads were happy then we were happy, and we could conquer anything.”

The salon will feature wigs and beauty products as well as beauty and consultation services by Betsy Rachubinski, a wig specialist and licensed cosmetologist.

“Hair is a part of our identity and losing it can create a sense of fear and anxiety among patients,” Rachubinski said. “I believe it is important to provide individualized styles for patients to feel a sense of confidence. Being involved with an organization with deep roots in our community, where I can use my talents to help those in need, is very humbling.”

Rachubinski has 11 years of experience in the cosmetology field and is certified in the Look Good, Feel Better program through the American Cancer Society. The program aims to improve the self-esteem and quality of life of individuals undergoing treatment for cancer. Rachubinski is also a partner with Strike Out Cancer, a resource for patients and families affected by pediatric cancer.

Happy Heads will be open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. To schedule a free consultation with Happy Heads, call (920) 843-1984, or contact Betsy Rachubinski via email at
