A clinical laboratory is a laboratory where tests are performed on clinical specimens (blood, body fluids, urine, stool, sputum) in order to obtain information about the health of a patient as pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

The clinical laboratory staff at FVHO includes medical laboratory technicians, medical laboratory scientists/technologists, and phlebotomists. At FVHO, our competent and highly skilled laboratory staff are specially trained to draw blood, handle patient specimens properly, test the samples, and analyze and interpret the results. All of our medical laboratory technicians and medical laboratory scientist/technologists have obtained either an associate or bachelor’s degree along with ASCP certification in their field of study. FVHO licensed practical nurses and registered nurses also assist lab staff with patient care.

Laboratory testing can be extremely important in determining the general health status of an individual patient. Our clinical laboratory at FVHO is fully equipped and processes numerous patient samples for a variety of diagnostic purposes every day.

Prior to your appointment, your provider will have ordered specific lab tests. The phlebotomist will take you into the lab draw bay to obtain the necessary samples. The lab staff will then bring the specimens back to the laboratory to process the tests.

The clinical laboratory at FVHO is COLA accredited and has been awarded the COLA award of laboratory excellence on various inspections. We provide same day results with quick turnaround times on most of our in-house labs. This gives the provider and patient the ability to discuss the results at their office visit eliminating delays in treatment.

We are a full service lab open to the public but will need a written order from an outside provider along with a diagnosis code to cover the testing that is being ordered. Key divisions of our lab services include:

  • Hematology
  • Chemistry
  • Special Chemistry
  • Tumor Markers
  • Coagulation
  • Urinalysis
  • Rapid testing to include: Strep, Influenza A & B, Fecal Occult Blood
  • Genetic Testing (including bone marrows)
